Open Gardens & Garden Visits

One of the best ways to get great ideas for your Patcham garden is to visit other fabulous gardens and steal theirs! We organise visits to local(ish) gardens and generous PGN members open up their gardens for all to see. In 2025 three of our members opened their gardens and raised over £1650 for charities.

Trip to RHS Wisley

As an affiliated society of the RHS we are entitled to a free trip to one of their gardens every year. Our visit to Wisley is booked for Saturday October 17th, 10.30am. Key highlights at this time of year will be the Asters in the Equinox Border, the Oudolf Landscape, harvest time at the World Food Garden and the Exotic Garden.

Wisley is one hour’s drive from Patcham and we ask that you make your own way there, car sharing with other members if you are able to. We will meet at the entrance and all go in together at 10.30am. From there you are free to go off and do your own thing, or stay with the group. Please contact us if you would like to come.

Garden Visit

Thanks to everyone who came to visit Steve Bustin's beautiful city garden in Belton Close which was open for the NGS earlier in August. Steve has given two excellent talks at PGN in the last couple of years, the most recent on Ellen Willmott.

We had a lovely sociable morning with gorgeous cake and endless and somewhat envious garden chat.

Open Garden 23rd August 2026

Thanks to everyone who came to Nicola's open garden in August. The weather was perfect, as were the cakes, and the event raised £400 for the Forget Me Not dementia intensive care facility in Worthing. Forget Me Not is a specialist residential unit where Nicola manages two gardens and runs horticultural activities for patients on a budget of zero. This money will go a long way!

The Garden House visit April 2025

We visited The Garden House in Warley Road for its NGS open day in the April sunshine. Originally a market garden it has year-round interest with trees, shrubs, herbaceous borders and annuals, fruit and vegetables, two glasshouses, a pond and rockery. They also run courses and do great cake!
